“TO THE SINGLE AND THE MARRIED - PRAYFULLY MEDITATING 1 CORINTHIANS 7”
-
KNOWLEDGE AND LOVE
-
LORD, you said that the knowledge we all possess “puffs up,” while love builds up.
Whoever loves You is known by You.
-
IDOLS
-
An idol is nothing at all in the world. There are many so-called “gods” and “lords.”
-
ONE GOD
But we know there is no God but one.
-
There is one God, the Father,
from whom all things came,
and for whom we live;
-
And
-
There is but one Lord, Jesus Christ,
through whom all things came,
and through whom we live
-
But not everyone possesses this knowledge. Some people are still so accustomed to idols.
-
FOOD “SACRIFICED TO IDOLS”
-
When some people eat sacrificial food, they think of it as having been sacrificed to a god. Since their conscience is weak, it is defiled.
-
FOOD AND GOD
-
Food does not bring us near to You. We are no worse if we do not eat, and no better if we do.
-
DON’T BECOME A STUMBLING BLOCK
-
We have knowledge from You concerning the right to eat meat, but You want us to be careful that the exercise of our rights does not become a stumbling block to someone with a weak conscience. Therefore, this is how we ought to know, that we should not wound their weak conscience. Becoming a stumbling block for them to fall is sinning against Christ.
-
PRAYING FOR OUR LOST LOVED ONES
-
LORD, we think the spiritual lesson You are teaching us is to be gentle and considerate of others that still don’t understand our freedom in Christ. You don’t want for us to be proud and forward and wound another’s spirit. But rather, You want for us to condescend to those that are weak and vulnerable. You want for us to exercise love over exercising our rights, esteeming the spiritual welfare of others over our self indulgence.
-
Help us Counselor, to exercise love and fulfill the royal law. May we become all things to all people that we may win some to Christ. We pray that we be soul winners of our own personal Jerusalem, our lost loved ones. For Your kingdom is not a matter of eating and drinking, but righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. Thank You, LORD, we pray in Jesus name.
